12 Ways to Prove Presence. Zero Excuses for Inaccurate Attendance.
Every workforce is different. Factory workers need fingerprint terminals. Field reps need GPS client check-ins. WFH teams need selfie verification. MAttendance handles all of it — in one platform.
Most Systems Give You One. We Give You All Twelve.
The reason most companies still have attendance problems isn't discipline — it's inflexible systems. A fingerprint machine is useless for a salesperson at a client site. GPS is meaningless for a factory floor with no outdoor boundary.
The 12 Punch Methods — In Detail
Every method explained: how it works, what hardware you need, and who it's best for.
GPS Punch
“The classic field punch. Your location proves your presence.”
Employee opens the app and taps Punch In. The app reads GPS coordinates and checks them against the configured geofence radius of their assigned office. If within range, the punch is recorded.
Field employees, outdoor worksites, mobile teams
None — mobile app only
Geofence boundary validation
Medium (excellent outdoors, can drift indoors)
- Works for any office with latitude/longitude configured
- Geofence radius is configurable (50m to 5km)
- GPS must be enabled on the employee's phone at punch time
WiFi Punch
“On the office WiFi? You're in the building. Punch accepted.”
The employee's phone reads the MAC address of the WiFi router it's connected to. If that MAC matches a registered office router, the punch is recorded — no geofence needed.
Office employees who are always on company WiFi
Your existing office WiFi router (register its MAC address once)
Router MAC address match
High (proves physical proximity to router)
- Works with any standard WiFi router — no special hardware
- Multiple routers/access points can be registered
- Employee must be connected to office WiFi (not mobile data)
QR Code Punch
“Display. Scan. Done. Time-expiring codes prevent screenshot sharing.”
A time-limited QR code is displayed at the office entrance (on a screen, tablet, or printed sheet). Employees scan it with the MAttendance app. The code refreshes periodically, making it impossible to share screenshots.
Office reception areas, factory gates, shared entrances
A screen or printed QR sheet at the entrance
Time-expiring token (refreshes automatically)
High (proves physical presence at the QR display location)
- QR tokens expire after a short period — sharing screenshots won't work
- Best displayed on a digital screen that refreshes automatically
- Admin generates QR from the portal; employee scans with camera
Selfie Punch
“A photo is worth a thousand punch cards.”
Employee opens the app, taps Punch In, selects Selfie, and takes a frontal photo. The selfie is stored with the punch record for HR review. Not automated face matching — it's human-reviewed visual proof.
Field employees, remote workers, secondary verification
None — phone's front camera
Manual HR/admin review of stored photos
Manual (depends on HR review workflow)
- Photos stored securely and linked to the punch record
- Best combined with GPS for field employees (location + photo proof)
- No AI processing required — suitable as a simple visual audit trail
Fingerprint
“Tamper-proof. Always accurate. The gold standard of attendance.”
A physical fingerprint terminal at the office entrance scans the employee's fingerprint. The machine records the punch and MAttendance syncs the log — automatically over the network or via CSV import.
Manufacturing, warehouses, factories, high-security offices
Fingerprint terminal (ZKTeco, Suprema, Anviz, or compatible)
Biometric fingerprint match — cannot be shared or faked
Very high (biometric identity verification)
- Supports ZKTeco, Suprema, Anviz, and ZKFP-compatible terminals
- Logs sync automatically if machine is on your network
- Employees do not need the mobile app — they use the terminal
Web Browser Punch
“No app. No phone. Just a browser and a click.”
Employees punch in directly from the MAttendance web portal using any browser. No app installation required. The system logs their IP address.
Desk workers, office employees, employees without smartphones
Any computer with a browser
IP address logging; optional IP restriction to office network
Medium–High (stronger with IP restriction enabled)
- Optional IP restriction: limit web punch to the office network range
- Works on any device: laptop, desktop, tablet
- Employees must be logged into the portal
Bluetooth Beacon
“Walk in range. Tap punch. The beacon confirms you're here.”
A small BLE beacon device is placed at the office. When an employee's phone comes within range (5–30 meters), the app detects the beacon's unique ID. The employee taps Punch In, and proximity is confirmed.
Offices preferring contactless verification, shared spaces
BLE beacon device (Estimote, Kontakt.io, or compatible)
Beacon UUID + Major/Minor combination match
High (physical proximity to beacon required)
- Range is configurable via beacon signal strength settings
- Multiple beacons can be registered for large offices
- Bluetooth must be enabled on the employee's phone
NFC Tag Punch
“Tap. Done. The fastest punch in the building.”
An NFC tag sticker or keycard is placed at the office entrance. Employee holds their phone against the tag (within 2–4 cm). The app reads the tag's unique UID and submits the punch instantly.
Entry points, reception desks, time-clock stations, warehouse zones
NFC tag stickers or keycards (NTAG213/215/216 compatible)
Tag UID match — each tag has a unique hardware identifier
Very high (requires direct physical contact with the registered tag)
- NFC tags cost less than $1 each — extremely cost-effective
- Tags can be placed on any surface: doors, walls, desks, posts
- Employee phone must have NFC hardware enabled
Face Recognition
“Look at your phone. You're in. Automated, contactless, AI-verified.”
Admin enrolls the employee's face data once. At punch time, the employee holds their phone up and the camera captures their face. The system compares it against the enrolled face embedding. If matched, punch is recorded automatically.
High-volume entry points, contactless offices, automated check-in
None required (uses phone camera); or dedicated face recognition terminals
AI face embedding comparison
High (excellent lighting), Medium (poor lighting)
- Enrollment photos must be clear, well-lit, and frontal
- Works entirely on the phone camera — no dedicated terminal needed
- Can integrate with dedicated face recognition hardware terminals
Geofence Auto-Punch
“Employees don't have to do anything. The system knows when they arrive.”
The MAttendance app runs in the background. When the employee's phone enters the office geofence, a Punch In is triggered automatically. When they leave, a Punch Out is triggered. The employee gets a push notification confirming each punch.
Employees who forget to punch, offices wanting zero-friction attendance
None — mobile app only
Geofence boundary + 5-minute cooldown
Medium (GPS-dependent — excellent outdoors)
- Requires 'Always Allow Location' permission (background location)
- 5-minute cooldown prevents rapid duplicate punches
- Employee receives push notification for every automatic punch
- Battery saver mode may interfere — whitelist the app
Voice Punch
“Hands full? Say "Punch In." You're done.”
Employee opens the app, selects Voice punch, and speaks the command ("Punch In" or "Punch Out"). The voice input is processed and the punch is submitted. No screen tapping required.
Warehouse workers with gloves, kitchen staff, cleanroom environments
None — phone microphone only
Voice processing
Medium (best in quiet environments)
- Best used in environments where hands are occupied
- Microphone permission required
- Works best in quiet environments — noise can affect recognition
Client Site Punch
“Your sales rep is at the client. Prove it. Log it. Track it.”
Admin registers all client site locations with GPS coordinates. Field employees open the app, select Client Site, choose the site they're visiting, and submit. GPS validates they are physically within the site's geofence.
Sales reps, field service technicians, facility maintenance, delivery personnel
None — mobile app only
GPS geofence validation at the client site's coordinates
High (GPS-verified against specific site coordinates)
- Unlimited client sites can be registered
- Each site has its own geofence radius
- Managers see a map view of all client site check-ins for the day
- Employees cannot fake presence at a site they're not at

Punch Method Questions
Common questions before choosing your setup.
Yes. MAttendance allows you to enable any combination of the 12 methods simultaneously. Employees can use whichever method is available to them, and all methods record identical punch data.
Fingerprint biometric is the most tamper-proof, followed by NFC Tag and Face Recognition. GPS and WiFi offer strong practical accuracy for most workplaces without any hardware cost.
All methods have built-in anti-spoofing. The AI Buddy Punching Analyzer also runs nightly and detects patterns where employees mark each other present. Biometric methods are inherently buddy-punch-proof.
GPS accuracy can drift indoors. For indoor offices, WiFi, QR Code, Bluetooth Beacon, or NFC Tag are recommended instead, as they prove physical presence in the building more accurately.
Yes. The fingerprint terminal operates offline and logs punches locally. MAttendance syncs the logs when connectivity is available — either automatically over the network or via CSV import.
MAttendance sends push notification reminders at shift end. Employees can also submit regularization requests for missed punches, subject to manager approval.
Voice punch is suitable for hands-free scenarios like warehouses and kitchens. It's a convenience method rather than a high-security method. For maximum security, pair it with an additional method like GPS.
